Cordite Buckets, also known as Powder Buckets were used by "Powder monkeys" (young boys, typically around the ages of 10 to 14) who worked on naval ships during the Age of Sail and into the 19th century. Their primary role was to transport gunpowder from the ship's hold to the cannons during battle. This job was crucial for maintaining the ship’s firepower but also extremely dangerous due to the risk of explosions.

This Antique Cordite "Powder Bucket" from circa 1850 is a painted canvas on coopered oak decorated with the Royal Navy Coat of Arms with a leather handle.  Its in good antique condition considering its age with real wear and use evident.  It weighs 1.125kg and measures 34cm tall  (approx 13.5"), 46cm tall with handle (approx 18") and has a width of 16cm (max) (6.25").

This piece would make a great addition to any collection or would be a great conversation starter / interior design piece if used as a dry flower vase or wine bottle holder.
